Pullen Park

As the first public park in North Carolina, Pullen Park was first established in 1887. A fun fact is that Pullen Park is the 5th oldest amusement park in the United States and it features a traditional carousel with hand-carved animals for the kids to ride. Spread out over its 66.4 acres visitors will find green space, walking paths, playgrounds, Aquatic Center, Pullen Arts Center, and the Theatre in the Park as well. This is definitely one of the best Raleigh, NC, local points.

JC Raulston Arboretum at NC State

Established in 1976 by James Chester Raulston, horticulturist, this arboretum and botanical garden has become a famous Raleigh spot. North Carolina State University cares for and runs this beautiful spot that features over 6,000 plants and flowers from over 50 countries.

Breweries & Raleigh Beer Garden

For the beer lovers out there, there may be only a select few places that are better in the whole country. With a designated “Raleigh Beer Trail,” patrons can visit all of the 25 Raleigh-area breweries. For those beer lovers that want to sit and enjoy, the Raleigh Beer Garden is the largest in the world and features over 400 taps that are filled with beer from around the world. Fun fact: the state of North Carolina is home to more than 300 breweries and brewpubs.

North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

Being the largest of its kind in the SE United States is one of the reasons this museum is a must-see. Seeing more than 1.2 million satisfied visitors each year, the four-story museum will provide an opportunity for everyone to learn something with exhibits like North Carolina: Mountains to the Sea, Prehistoric North Carolina, Arthropod Zoo, and many more.

William B. Umstead State Park

If you are looking to escape the hustle of the city, this tranquil, 5,599-acre state park is a nature-lovers dream. With ample hiking, biking and horseback riding trails sprawled within the park’s boundaries, it is easy to escape amongst the trees, hills and lakes.

Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about all you foodies. Aside from all the local, mouth-watering restaurants, Raleigh has two fantastic food halls that draw crowds from all over.
